2009 June 16
Now the wall paper has come off and its got like black and or brown patches. It is cold to touch but there are 3 sorts of damp. Rising damp, Penetrating damp, Condensation. I need to find out which one I have so I can look at what treatment is best.
I want some genuine answers please thanks

Possibilities are:
assuming your bedroom is on the first floor and its and outside wall, then the water will getting into the wall from:
a block / defective guttering outside
possibly some problem with the roof / lead etc in the area above the damp. Fix problem and let damp dry out.
water coming through the wall due to poor brickwork or cavity blocked up. Some coatings possible to protect wall or re pointing if needed.
water coming through a defective window frame above the damp area or in a room upstairs if there is one. Check sealant around window / replace if needed.
Leaking water / heating pipe in wall or loft / floor space above. Lift floor boards / look in loft for any signs of pipes.
If its on the ground floor and the damp is near the bottom of the wall then could be raising damp. Could need a new damp proof course or just a good cleaning, check no soil up against wall on outside above floor level etc
Condensation is also possible but if you sleep with the window a jar then this should reduce it.
You need to trace the Source then repair the cause. You should fix damp as soon as possible as leaving it can convert a less than £100 repair cost into £1,000’s….
Black spot, clean off with light bleach, may be a cold wall, if so perhaps full the cavity, then have the windows open at times, VENTILATION! ! !
its condensation damp and the black bits are mould.
wipe the mould with 1 part bleach to 3 parts water, and ventilte room regularly. leave window open a bit.
