Rosin paper or felt paper under hardwood. and the foam is for your floating laminite floors . E mail me with any questions you have I ve interr a few 100,000 s/f of wood… GL
Yes you do, for laminate. The difference is whether you have to buy underlayment or not. Some brands of flooring come with the foam attached to the planks already. In this case, no additional underlayment is required. If it isn’t attached, you will need to buy it separately. Check the instructions to determine which type is required.
Under true nailed down hardwood flooring, underlayment will not be required if the subfloor is 3/4″ and structurally sound. The flooring is nailed directly to the subfloor. If the subfloor is 5/8″, or has surface issues, you can apply another layer of subfloor, minimum of 1/2″. Remember that each layer raises the floor, which may cause problems with doors, stairs, etc. Hope this helps.
no foam underlayment that is for laminate flooring, rosin paper is for the hardwood or roofing felt. Put that down first and that will help eliminate any squeaks from the staples or nails you use to secure the hardwood
Do what Rob s tells you to do. He keeps beating me to the punch which is fine idrc. Also, at Home Depot their big hardback repair book will help you. Spend the $20 that is a good accurate text. It’s the big thick one.
here in the uk we never do put foam under hardwood flooring ..but we have been doing for a thousand years !..foam is for laminates only ..
